TEPS 청해 파트 2,3 에서 자주 나오는 구문
1. A and B are not necessarily synonymous. A와 B는 꼭 같은 의미는 아니다.
synonymous : 같은[비슷한] 뜻을 갖는, 동의어[유의어]의
ex) Work and job are not necessarily synonymous.
2. S am/is/are + 비교급 + than average. ~이 평균보다 더/덜~하다.
ex) The baby is bigger than average.
3. It must have been something + 형용사. 그것은 뭔가 ~한 것이었음에 틀림없다.
ex) It must have been something special.
4. S + V, while S + V. 하는 반면 ~이다.
while : 하는 동안[사이] / 이긴 하지만, ~에도 불구하고
ex) Worrisome thoughts have adverse effects, while joyous thoughts have beneficial effects.
5. S has/have the same effect as -. ~는 -와 같은 효과를 갖고 있다.
ex) It has the same effect as caffeine.
6. The Koreans, as opposed to ~, + V. 한국인들은 ~와는 달리 ~하다.
as opposed to : 와는 대조적으로; ~이 아니라
ex) The Koreans, as opposed to the Chineses, drink a lot of beer.
7. I base something on -. 나는 ~을 -에 기초하고 있다.
base something on/upon something : ~에 근거[기반]를 두다
ex) What are you basing this theory on? 이 이론은 어디에 근거를 둔 것입니까?
8. I become aware of the fact that +절. 나는 ~라는 사실을 인식하게 되다.
be[become] aware of : ~을 알아 차리다, ~을 알다
ex) They were aware of the landlord's malevolent purpose.
그들은 집주인의 악의적인 의도를 알고 있었다.
9. Either way, S + will + V. 둘 중 어는 쪽이든 ~할 것이다.
either way : (둘 중) 어느 쪽이든

have no alternative but + to 부정사 have no option but + to 부정사
cf) "~하지 않을 수 없다.' cannot but + 원형동사 / cannot help + ~ing
14. S have/has no regard for -. ~는 -를 존중하지 않는다.
ex) She has no regard for the feelings of others.
15. In this respect S + V. 이러한 점에서 ~하다.
in this[that] respect : 이[그] 점에서는
ex) He was quite explicit in this respect. 그는 그 점에 대해서 조금도 숨김이 없었다.
16. In view of - S + V. ~을 고려하여 ~하다.
in view of something : ~을 고려하여[~ 때문에]
ex) IIn view of the weather, the event will now be held indoors.
날씨를 고려하여 이제 그 행사는 실내에서 열릴 것이다.
17. There is no point + -ing 구문. ~을 해봤자 아무 소용이 없다.
ex) There is no point in trying to convince him.
18. I will + V + on condition that + 절. 나는 ~라는 조건으로 ~할 것이다.
on condition : 조건부로
ex) I will sign the contract on condition that you deliver the goods on time.
19. S result(s) from the fact that + 절. ~는 ~라는 사실에서 기인하다.
ex) A lot of problems with teenagers result from the fact that parents are too permissive.
20. The point is that + 절. 요지는 ~라는 것이다.
ex) The point is that women continue to regarded as second rate citizens.
21. The underlying idea of ~is -. ~에 깔린 기본 생각은 -이다.
underlying : 근본적인[근원적인]

doubt : 의심. 의혹, 의문

23. There is no sense in + -ing 구문. ~해봐야 아무런 의미가 없다.
ex) There is no sense in going on strike.
24. S vary/varies from place to place. ~는 곳에 따라 다르다.
ex) Customs vary from place to place.
25. S have/has great flexibility of use. ~는 매우 다양한 용도로 사용된다.
flexibililty : 다루기 쉬움, 유순함 / 적응성, 융통성
ex) This book has great flexibility of use.
26. S begin(s) with ~ and ends with -. ~는 ~로 시작해서 -로 끝이 난다.
ex) The film begins with the death of a woman and ends with her revenge.
